Nonprofits, Libraries, Theatres & Member Organizations

Websites for organizations that run on people, not budgets

PortNW works with nonprofits, community organizations, libraries, theatres and member groups across Washington State. We build sites the people who run your organization can actually maintain — and tools that take the friction out of the work a small team is asked to do.

Tell Us About Your Mission

What we do differently

Most of the work we do is for organizations that will never have a web department. That changes what a website should be.

Built for volunteers, not web teams

Simple editing, training and documentation, so the site survives staff and board turnover.

Bilingual when it matters

English and Spanish content throughout, so the families you serve can read it in their language.

Accessibility as part of the build

Structure, contrast and semantics handled while we build, rather than bolted on afterwards.

Lean to run

No unnecessary plugins or license fees, and hosting that is not a profit center. Small budgets deserve sites that stay cheap to keep.

A long-term partner

Our clients stay with us for years. We treat their sites as living assets, not one-off projects handed over and forgotten.

Looked after, not abandoned

Daily error-log and security reviews, updates and backups — because a hacked, dead site is a real thing that happens to real organizations.

Organizations we have worked with

Every one of these is a long-term relationship, not a one-off build.

Tools for the work you do

  • ✓ Volunteer coordination — custom tools for tracking who is available and what needs doing, rather than a spreadsheet passed between inboxes.
  • ✓ Events and ticketing — calendars, listings and connections to the ticketing system you already use.
  • ✓ Learning platforms — Moodle and LMS work for training, certification and educational programs.
  • ✓ Donations and online sales — WooCommerce stores and donation flows, including custom development where the standard plugins do not fit.
  • ✓ Bilingual and accessible content — English and Spanish, structured so everyone can use it.
  • ✓ Rescue and repair — cleaning up a compromised site and getting it stable again.

Questions we get asked

We are run entirely by volunteers. Will we be able to update the site ourselves? +

Yes — that is the point. We build on WordPress with a structure volunteers can learn in an afternoon, and we document what we have built so the knowledge does not live with one person. Board members come and go; the site should not fall apart when they do.

Can the site include Spanish, or another language? +

Yes. We built the Institute for Family Development's Parents as Teachers site in English and Spanish throughout, so the families it serves can read it in their own language. Translation is set up so it can be kept current, not left as a one-time rebuild.

Our site was hacked, or has been broken for months. Can you help? +

That is a familiar one. We rebuilt a member organization's site and its message board after a hack took the forum down for months — server cleanup, database repair, migration, and a full security audit so it does not happen again.

We have almost no budget for this. +

Nonprofit budgets vary enormously — from all-volunteer groups to organizations with staff and grant funding. We are flexible about how a project is shaped, phased and paid for, we scope to what you actually have rather than quoting one price for everyone, and we will tell you honestly what is achievable before you commit to anything.

Can you help us keep track of volunteers? +

Yes — it is one of the custom tools we build. One place to keep track of who is available, what needs doing and who has signed up, instead of a spreadsheet forwarded between inboxes. It is in development now, and we expect to make it available to other organizations once it has proven itself in daily use.

Tell us what you are trying to do

You do not need a specification or a budget already decided. Describe the problem and we will tell you honestly what it would take.
